Hot off the press, the Middle East team's stories from Madrid are now up on the project website. You can find them by looking in the discussion folder in the Madrid - Middle East team's group page (http://training.journalismnetwork.eu/group/madridmiddleeastteam).
Last week's session was an emotional rolercoaster with our reporters from Palestine, Syria, Israel, Egypt and Jordan delving into the legacy of the Madrid bombings for Spain's Muslim community five years after the Atocha bombings and the wider implications for EU security policy.
The team met with some of the highest profile speakers we have had to date in the project. Interviews took place all over the city with guests including some of the victims of the 11 - 03 - 04 attacks, Carmen Buján - Director of the Department of Strategic Affairs and Terrorism at the Spanish Foreign Office, José Luis González Vallvé - Director of Spanish Representation Office of the European Commission, Dr Monier El Messery - Imman of Madrid's Central Mosque, Antonio Camacho Vizcaino - Under Secretary of the Spanish Home Office, José María de Irujo of El País – one of Spain's leading journalists on terrorism and Dolores Delgado - Anti-terrorist Attorney at the Audiencia Nacional, Spain’s principal terrorism court.
The week also included the team being interviewed for Spanish national television channel TVE, who are due to run a piece on the ENJN project on 23 January. Our team's stories will, as usual, get aired and published in some of the leading publications and channels across the Middle East so stay tuned and online to see the reactions.
