Discussions of the conflict in Gaza will take centre stage next week when members of the ENJN (Euromed) Task Force meet in London. The media’s inability to report from the heart of the conflict will be one of the topics discussed by the group, which will investigate ways of overcoming such restrictions for the future. Events in the region will also feature in additional meetings being held in tandem.

A roundtable discussion In the shadow of Gaza: conflict reporting, media perspectives and public perceptions will bring together around 50 media professionals and associated interests from across the region. At a larger gathering, invited guests from foreign media based in the UK, will hear an address from the President of the Anna Lindh Foundation Andre Azoulay, who, along with representatives from the Alliance of Civilisations and the European Commission, will seek the opinions of media professionals on what can be done to help them in their work in areas where conflict is a frequent characteristic.

The Task Force members will look back on ENJN activities in 2008 and will help select themes to be covered in 2009. There will also be planning for the Alliance of Civilisations meeting in Istanbul in April, where details of cooperation between Alliance, the Commission and the Foundation on media matters will be announced.
