Media and civil society representatives will gather in Stockholm next week to discuss the problems faced by societies in the aftermath of conflict. Organised jointly by the Anna Lindh Foundation and its partners in Sweden, and with the participation of the ENJN (Euromed) Task Force, Restoring trust - Rebuilding bridges will examine Euro-Mediterranean regional cooperation and the potential contributions of seminar participants to post-conflict situations.
The event marks the International Day of Peace and includes addresses from the Swedish EU presidency, ALF President Andre Azoulay and former UN Peace Envoy Lakhdar Brahimi. There will also be an update on the cooperation between the European Commission, the ALF and the UN Alliance of Civilisations on a media rapid response mechanism, which aims to offer a moderating effect in times of intercultural crisis.
The ENJN (Euromed) Task Force has been working on this project on behalf of the European Commission since its meeting in London in February this year. Currently it is examining the selection processes for the UN’s Global Expert Finder, which will sit at the heart of the response mechanism. While in Sweden The Task Force will also continue its planning for a meeting to discuss aspects of media freedom, the potential to continue its consultation on reporting terrorism, and input to the themes of the ALF Forum planned for Barcelona in March next year.
