From 7-9 November 2009 the European Neighbourhood Journalism Network (ENJN) organised a conference around the 20th anniversary of the Fall of Berlin Wall.
This 3-day event, which took place in Berlin, combined a review of the journalism training and networking programme that is being conducted by the ENJN with a debate on the main challenges faced by media over the subsequent two decades and the crisis facing media today. It also provided an excellent opportunity to report on the 20th anniversary celebrations taking place in Berlin.
The debates focused on among other issues: press freedom since 1989, the media crisis in Europe, journalists-union reform, corruption reporting and ethical Journalism.
The conference was organised by the ENJN consortium of the Thomson Foundation, the International Federation of Journalists and BBJ with support from IFJ affiliates in Germany: the Deutsche Journalistinnen und Journalisten Union and the Deutscher Journalisten-Verband.
All activities are designed to promote networking among participants coming from all corners of Europe and its Eastern neighbourhood. The Networking approach takes account of the diverse media backgrounds and promotes open debate as part of stimulating participants to become actively and positively engaged in the discussed issues.
