Background material for ENJN conference in Berlin - Part One
From 7-9 November 80 journalists from across the former Soviet Union gathered in Berlin for the ENJN conference, which took place against the backdrop of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
The conference explored the changes in the media in Eastern Europe over the last twenty years and the role of major institutions, like the EU, in supporting this change.
The debates focused on among other issues: press freedom since 1989, the media crisis in Europe, journalists-union reform, corruption reporting and ethical Journalism.
Background material, among which several IFJ reports, i.e. Journalist Trade-Union Report, Partial Justice: An inquiry into the deaths of journalists in Russia 1993 – 2009; For Free and Fair Media in Belarus and Revolution in the News: The story behind Ukraine’s Newsroom Revolt, can be found in the attachment.
