Morocco - Achievements

According to the European Commission’s Progress Report Morocco has made good progress in all the domains covered by the ENP Action Plan and has also shown strong willingness to cooperate further with the EU.

Morocco clearly wants to intensify the democratization and modernization process in the country. In 2007, the EU increased support for the institutions carrying out necessary reforms. Political dialogue, also on security and migration issues, was brought on a deeper level.

In July 2007, EU and Morocco signed an agreement on closer cooperation in energy issues. Morocco is an important transit country for gas delivery towards the EU and thus plays a significant role in Europe’s energy security.

Aviation agreement opens the mutual aviation market for EU and Moroccan companies. This will boost competition, reduce fares and improve choice for consumers, while helping Morocco to build its tourist industry and provide employment for its people.

Fisheries agreement gives EU fishing vessels opportunities for fishing in Moroccan waters, with the EU in return providing technical and financial assistance for the modernization of the sector in Morocco.

Morocco is the first African nation to sign an agreement on participation in the GALILEO program with the EU.
