Tunisia - Achievements
The European Commission’s Progress Report Tunisia assesses that progress has been evident in a number of areas covered by the Action Plan.
Tunisia is the most advanced of the EU’s Mediterranean partners regarding the gradual introduction of a free trade area with the EU. The EU and Tunisia work to establish a mutual free trade area by 2010.
The EU hopes to increase open discussion with Tunisia concerning human rights and democracy issues.
The EU supports projects improving social progress, the education system, reform of the sickness insurance system and health care. Rural development, including poverty reduction and water supplies development, is also supported by the EU.
Tunisia has initiated the procedure to ratify the OP of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
Tunisia made progress in improving the business environment in the country, through measures such as the simplification of company registration procedures, reduction of licensing fees, and the introduction of “one-stop shops”.
